Privacy Policy

Data Collection

Candles does not collect personal data. All data you enter into the App — including names, dates of birth, notes, gift ideas, and notification preferences — is stored on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData).

If you are signed in to iCloud, this data is also synced across your devices through your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account, and we cannot access it.

The only information the App sends to us is the anonymous usage statistics described in "Analytics" below. These never include your birthdays, contacts, notes, gift ideas, or any other content you enter.

Contacts Access

If you choose to import birthdays from your Contacts, the App reads contact names and birthday dates from your device's address book. This data is processed on your device, is never sent to us or any third party, and is only used to create birthday entries within the App. You can revoke Contacts access at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts.

Notifications

The App uses local notifications to remind you of upcoming birthdays. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely by your device. No notification data is sent to external servers.

Analytics

Candles uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the App is used — for example, how often the Premium screen is opened and whether purchases succeed or fail.

These signals are anonymous. They contain no names, birthdays, contacts, email addresses, or Apple Account information, and the device identifier is hashed before it leaves your device so it cannot be traced back to you. Signals may include basic technical information such as the App version, iOS version, device model, and language, which helps us find and fix problems.

This data is not linked to your identity, is not used for advertising, and is not shared with or sold to anyone. Candles does not track you across other companies' apps or websites and contains no advertising.

Siri, Widgets & Apple Watch

If you use Siri, Shortcuts, or Spotlight with Candles, requests are handled by Apple on your device and within Apple's systems; we do not receive them. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets and the Apple Watch app read your birthday data directly from your own devices. This data is shared only between your own devices and is not sent to us.

In-App Purchases & Third-Party Services

The App offers an optional one-time Premium purchase through Apple's App Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not have access to your payment information.

Apart from Apple's system frameworks (such as SwiftUI, SwiftData, CloudKit, StoreKit, WidgetKit, WatchConnectivity, UserNotifications, Contacts, and App Intents), the only third-party service the App uses is TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage statistics, as described above.

Data Storage, Security & Children's Privacy

App data is stored on your device and protected by your device's built-in security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). If iCloud is enabled, it is also stored in your private iCloud account and protected by Apple.

Deleting the App removes its data from that device. To also remove synced data, delete it in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage (or Manage Account Storage) > Candles.

Candles does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App does not require an account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add new features. When we do, we will change the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
